This toll road runs north-south parallel to the Atlantic coast of Galicia. Its users prefer it to the conventional alternatives for the convenience, speed and safety it adds to their journeys.
Galicia is a rugged, mountainous terrain, criss-crossed by rivers and estuaries. The AP-9 runs under 453 overpasses (train tracks, local roads, etc), through 7 tunnels, and over 99 viaducts and bridges of which 4 four are of special architectural interest. It has become a vital part of the road network and thus the social economy in the region. Providing top-quality mobility for some of the largest towns, it would be hard now to imagine how commuters, holiday-makers and HGV drivers ever got by without it.
